It also delivers more energy in the desired\u00a0<\/strong><strong>excitation spectrum for fluorescence applications.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In its quest into ever smaller worlds, medicine needs\u00a0increasingly more efficient tools. As a result, the\u00a0significance of fluorescence imaging for medical and\u00a0laboratory diagnostics is growing, especially in the\u00a0early detection and treatment of tumours. This is due\u00a0to the fact that, despite the widespread use of imaging\u00a0technologies such as sonography or MR, surgeons\u00a0ultimately rely on their trained eye, e.g. when they have\u00a0to remove cancer foci. Finding the dividing line between\u00a0a tumour and healthy tissue is a difficult task. This is\u00a0where fluorescence microscopy and endoscopy can be\u00a0of great service.<\/p>\n<p>Having a powerful light source\u00a0is particularly important. The\u00a0current trend is moving in\u00a0the direction of LED solutions\u00a0which allow for a much more\u00a0economical operation. They require less power and\u00a0have a significantly longer service life than xenon lamps,\u00a0which have to be replaced after around 1,000 hours.\u00a0Photonic is working on a completely new solution in\u00a0this field, a multi-colour light source. It is based on the\u00a0F6000-M, currently the brightest endoscopy light source\u00a0on the market and expands the spectrum beyond the\u00a0visible range (VIS) and into NIR and UV. To achieve this,\u00a0the new light optically mixes several LEDs and couples\u00a0them together again in a light guide. \u201cIt uses high-power\u00a0LEDs, some of which are not yet available on the free\u00a0market and have been specially developed for our\u00a0requirements\u201d, Photonic product manager Christoph\u00a0Csek\u00f6 emphasises. The optics design required for the\u00a0mixing of the beam comes from WILD. \u201cOf course, if a\u00a0customer or an application requires laser instead of LED,\u00a0we can also offer a solution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Multicolour light sources are already available on the\u00a0market, but they are fitted with expensive xenon lamps\u00a0or several colour LEDs. Their disadvantage is that there\u00a0are gaps in the spectrum between these LEDs. Photonic\u2019s\u00a0new development, however, offers a solution with a\u00a0continuous white spectrum and additional fluorescence\u00a0ranges in the UV and NIR\u00a0spectrum. Its advantage over\u00a0individual colour LEDs is the\u00a0continuous Visible Spectrum\u00a0(VIS) and the extensions\u00a0beyond VIS, allowing for a\u00a0more universal use of the\u00a0module. Compared to xenon light sources, the new light<br \/>\ndelivers clear economic (no lamp replacement) and ecological (no lamp disposal) advantages.
